HEZBOLLAH leader Naim Kassem has called on Lebanon’s government to work harder to end Israeli attacks on the country.
Giving a televised speech on Monday evening, Mr Kassem said that his resistance movement had implemented the ceasefire deal that ended the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war in late November, but Israel is continuing to carry out attacks almost every day.
An Israeli air strike hit a Beirut suburb on Sunday and Israel’s military has admitted conducting more than 50 strikes on Lebanon this month, claiming that Hezbollah has violated the US-brokered ceasefire.
On Sunday, warplanes struck Beirut’s southern suburbs after issuing a warning about an hour earlier. The Israeli military said the attack had struck a precision-guided missiles facility.
“The resistance complied 100 per cent with the [ceasefire] deal and I tell state officials that it’s your duty to guarantee protection,” Mr Kassem insisted, adding that Lebanese officials should call on the ceasefire’s sponsors to push for an end to Israel’s attacks.
“Put pressure on America and make it understand that Lebanon cannot rise if the aggression doesn’t stop,” he said, noting that the US has interests in Lebanon and “stability achieves these interests.”
The Lebanese government said earlier this month that 190 people have been killed and 485 injured by Israeli strikes since the ceasefire began.
BLOB: The head of Israel’s Shin Bet internal security service said on Monday that he will resign on June 15 over its failure to warn of the October 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israel.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tried to sack Ronen Bar last month, but the attempt sparked furious allegations of a conflict of interest because the Shin Bet is investigating ties between Mr Netanyahu’s office and Qatar, a key mediator in talks between Hamas and Israel.
The Supreme Court froze the sacking following legal challenges.
