Teachers protest outside Senedd calling for end to supply agency profiteering
NEU Cymru members protest outside the Senedd

TEACHERS held a protest calling for an end to supply agencies’ profiteering in Wales outside the Senedd on Wednesday.

National Education Union (NEU) Cymru members gathered outside the debating chamber to highlight the plight of education industry workers hired by agencies.

NEU Cymru’s interim Wales Secretary Nicola Fitzpatrick said: “We need to end profit in the education sector. We need to ensure that money being spent on staffing goes directly to our hard-working educators – not on agency profit.

“We need a proper national supply model for Wales, with supply teachers included within the School Teachers Pay and Conditions (Wales) Document.

“We shouldn’t be proud that Wales has thriving supply agencies. We should call it what it is. Profiteering.

“Teachers’ pay is devolved to Wales. Education must be about learning, not about company profit. Enough is enough. It is time for Welsh government to act.”

The Welsh government was contacted for comment.
