DARTS: New world number one Luke Littler beat previous holder of the top spot Luke Humphries 16-11 in Sunday night’s final of the Grand Slam of Darts.

Despite both players scoring similarly below par averages and check-out ratios, Littler nailed almost three times as many 180s.

Eighteen-year-old Littler is the youngest-ever world number one and has won over £1.8 million in prize money over the last two years.

MEN’S GOLF: Sheffield-born Matt Fitzpatrick beat Rory McIlroy on the first play-off hole to claim the World Tour Championship in Dubai on Sunday.

The runners-up spot was enough for McIlroy to finish top of the European Tour rankings for the seventh time.

Fitzpatrick finished third in the year-long competition, also known as the Race to, behind Marco Penge with Tyrrell Hatton fourth and Tommy Fleetwood fifth.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: The Democratic Republic of Congo beat Nigeria on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Africa’s World Cup qualification play-off final at a neutral venue in Morocco on Sunday evening.

Brentford’s Frank Onyeka put Nigeria ahead in the third minute, before Meschak Elia equalised after half an hour.

Congo will next join Bolivia, New Caledonia and three other yet-to-qualify teams in next year’s inter-confederation play-offs.

MEN’S CRICKET: Simon Harmer’s right arm off-breaks took match figures of 8-51 as world Test champions South Africa beat India by 30 runs inside three days of a low-scoring match at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

South African captain Temba Bavuma scored the only half-century of the match with an unbeaten 55 in their second innings that set India just 123 to win.

The final leg of their two-match Test series starts in Guwahati on Saturday.
