WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Hibs lead the Scottish Premier League by three points after goals from Kathleen McGovern and Kirsten Reilly sealed a 2-0 win over Motherwell on Wednesday evening. 

Glasgow City won 1-0 at Rangers to leap-frog them into second place and Celtic edged out Hearts 2-1. 

Montrose boosted their chances of avoiding relegation with a 4-0 win over doomed Queen’s Park, Spartans drew 1-1 with Aberdeen and Partick beat bottom club Dundee United 1-0.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Super League’s regular season champions London Lions tip off their play-off campaign tomorrow evening with a quarter-final first-leg fixture against Surrey at the Copper Box Arena. 

Runners-up Leicester Riders visit Bristol, Sheffield are up against Cheshire Phoenix and British basketball’s most successful team Newcastle take on Manchester. 

The second legs are scheduled for Sunday and bank holiday Monday.

HORSE RACING: The Willie Mullins-trained Galopin Des Champs beat Spillane’s Tower by a massive 22 lengths to win its first Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday. 

The two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup champion, who missed out on a hat-trick of titles when finishing second to Inothewayurthinkin six weeks ago, was runner-up in the last two Punchestown Gold Cups. It has won 15 of its 24 races, finishing outside the top three only three times.

NETBALL: It’s second against third and a repeat of last year’s Super League play-off final when defending champions Loughborough host Manchester Thunder in Nottingham tomorrow evening. 

Bottom-of-the-table Cardiff, who are still looking for their first win, are up against London Mavericks on Saturday before Birmingham play Leeds and table-topping London Pulse put their 100 per cent record on the line at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
