Adelante Latin America conference
Where would we be without our Readers and Supporters?

Morning Star circulation manager BERNADETTE KEAVENEY applauds the heroic efforts of our Star comrades and reminds you all where you can get your favourite daily

PICKET READS: The Morning Star being handed out at a picket Pic: Perry Bar

AS READERS will know sometimes trying to find an ad-hoc copy of the paper can be difficult, with many asking: Where can we buy the Morning Star? The simple answer is anywhere that stocks national daily newspapers.

However, the reality is more nuanced than that. We are still available at Morrisons daily (previously known as McColl’s), Co-ops and independent shops. The availability of shops to sell any paper is shrinking and being able to buy a random copy isn’t easy.

It is still fair to say though that if you want to buy the paper from a particular shop, we should be able to get the Morning Star stocked but if it doesn’t sell it won’t stay there long. We need to make buying the Morning Star as simple and convenient as buying other titles so last year we started working with a subscriptions company to help with this.

Readers can now either have a subscription for home news delivery or vouchers that can be used in shops. We promote this regularly in the paper and will be doing so at all conferences and events that we attend. Our next step is to migrate our digital subscription service, improve the digital edition of the paper and have a social media strategy to promote and sell. Over the next few months we will be bringing this to fruition.

Meanwhile where would we be without our Readers and Supporters groups?
Comrades in Birmingham have rallied to our assistance to distribute papers at both mega pickets in solidarity with the bin workers. Last week Friday, at 5.30am, they collected papers from the wholesaler and delivered them the various picket sites where they were distributed with helpers from Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Oxford, Lanarkshire and Nottinghamshire. A valuable job well done.

In London comrades have distributed papers at every Palestine demonstration as well as helping with distributions at conferences such as today’s Adelante! conference.

Every week our supporters in Scotland order at least 150 copies which they use on a stall in Buchanan street and trades council work on the Monday. We know none of the papers are wasted and most weeks we receive sales of well over £60, with a whopping £200 made last week after selling at a fabulous meeting with the grandson of Fidel Castro.

Are you going to a meeting, conference, picket line in your locality? If so, why not order some papers to take along? Order from circulation@peoples-press.com, tell us why you would like them, name and address, telephone number, edition required and don’t forget to drop us a line afterwards to tell us the tea.
