DISABLED SURVEY: Welsh nationalist Sioned Williams launched a survey yesterday to canvass the views of disabled people in her South Wales West constituency.

“We are weeks away from the UK budget and there is still a lot of fear and uncertainty about what the future holds for the availability of vital support for disabled people,” the Plaid Cymru MS said.

Wales has more people receiving disability benefits than many other parts of Britain.

COAL TIPS: A new Disused Tips Authority will be based on a reclaimed colliery tip site in Merthyr Tydfil, bringing 60 jobs to the area, the Welsh government announced yesterday.

It will be the first organisation of its kind in Britain, dealing with disused mine and quarry tips and addressing the safety issues caused by Wales’s industrial past.

The South Wales valleys have over 90 per cent of disused coal tips posing a potential threat.

COMMUNITY SHOCK: A Caldicot community in south Wales was in mourning yesterday after a dog killed a baby on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to an address in Crossway, Rogiet, following a report of a dog attack and a nine-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents said they were in disbelief at the death of the child, and were trying to come to terms with what had happened.

BUS BENEFIT: More young people will benefit from cheaper bus fares across Wales as the £1 bus fare pilot was extended to all five to 15-year-olds yesterday by the Welsh government.

The scheme was launched in September for 16 to 21-year-olds, and almost a quarter of a million journeys have already been made.

First Minister Eluned Morgan said the extended scheme will provide more children and young people with affordable travel, which will help both financially and benefit the environment.
