Two more charged over violent disorder outside Epping refugee hotel
Police officers ahead of the latest in a series of demonstrations outside the former Bell Hotel in Epping, July 27, 2025

TWO more men have been charged in connection with far-right disorder outside a refugee hotel in Epping.

Charlie Land, 23, and Luke Fleming, 21, were arrested on Sunday, bringing the total charged over protests at the Bell Hotel to 16.

Both were due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today after being charged with violent disorder.

Anti-immigrant protests began outside the hotel on July 13, after an asylum-seeker staying there was charged with allegedly attempting to kiss a 14-year-old girl. He denies the allegation and remains in custody.

The protests escalated into violence, with demonstrators hurling projectiles, damaging police vehicles and injuring officers.

Essex Police recently put dispersal orders in place ahead of some protests, giving officers powers to direct anyone suspected of committing anti-social behaviour to leave the area.

The force confirmed that it will be making more arrests in the coming days.
