Iran bans newspaper for publishing front-page graphic of Supreme Leader drawing the poverty line

IRAN closed a newspaper today for publishing a front-page graphic that appeared to show the Supreme Leader hand-drawing the poverty line in the Islamic Republic.

The semi-official Mehr news agency said that Iran’s media supervisory body had shut down the daily paper Kelid after it published on Saturday an article headed “Millions of Iranians living under poverty line.”

Under the headline, the graphic shows a left hand holding a pen and drawing a red line across the page as silhouettes of people underneath are reaching up to the line.
