Leigh Leopards' Josh Charnley gets tackled during the Betfred Super League match at the Brick Community Stadium, Wigan, August 6, 2024

SPEEDWAY: The pick of tonight’s Premiership action sees the top two clash as league leaders Ipswich Witches take their four-point lead to reigning champions Sheffield, who are without injured Tai Woffinden. Elsewhere tomorrow evening in-form Leicester host bottom club Birmingham, who have lost all nine of their away games this season. King’s Lynn have postponed their meeting with Belle Vue until August 28 due to a lack of available riders.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Defending champions Wigan moved back to the top of the Super League, two points clear of Hull KR, after running in five tries in a convincing 28-6 home victory over Leigh on Tuesday night. Leigh are eighth in the table, five points outside the play-off places. Tomorrow evening’s match sees inconsistent St Helens up against a Salford side that are two points ahead of them in fourth place.

WOMEN’S BOXING: Ireland’s Kellie Harrington became a two-time Olympic gold medallist after beating China’s number one seed Yang Wenlu on a split 4-1 decision to defend her 60kg title on Tuesday night. She joins Paddy Barnes as only the second Irish boxer to win two Olympic medals. Harrington, who — at 34 — has now announced her retirement, also won gold at the 2018 World Championships and 2023 European games.
