A barricade burns in Mozambique's capital, in protests that have engulfed the country after the opposition rejected the results of the country's polls which saw the Frelimo party extend its 58-year rule, Maputo, November 5, 2024

SOUTH AFRICA: Authorities today closed the busiest border crossing with Mozambique.

The move came after protests led to violent clashes in several cities following last month’s disputed presidential election, won by the country’s ruling Frelimo party.

The South African border agency said: “Due to security incidents and in the interest of public safety, the port has been temporarily closed until further notice.”
