A PARKING wardens’ strike over pay and conditions will unleash Christmas chaos across the streets of south London, GMB warned today.

Union members employed by car parking company Apcoa are taking two days of strike action before December 25 across the boroughs of Kingston, Lambeth, Richmond and Wandsworth.

GMB regional organiser Alex Etches said: “As we stated last time these members took action, these members not only generate revenue for the boroughs, but also keep traffic moving and keep the streets clear.

“Our members deserve a decent pay rise that reflects the difficult and sometimes dangerous job they do for the boroughs’ residents.

“Apcoa need to agree to meet us, agree to negotiate with us properly and perhaps we can avoid this sort of unnecessary disruption to residents and local businesses going forward.”

The dispute, which has already seen the GMB members strike for a week in October, is over a litany of workplace issues including Apcoa offering no pay rise at all.

The parking wardens are to walkout on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24.
