Thousands march against Iran war
Demonstrators during a Stop The War Coalition 'Stop Bombing Iran Day Of Action', protesting against the US-Israel war in Iran, Israeli incursions in Lebanon and the occupation of Palestine in Russell Square, London, March 21, 2026

THOUSANDS of people took to the streets on Saturday in a series of nationwide protests condemning US and Israeli attacks on Iran.

Activists waved placards that read “Stop Trump’s wars” and “Tell Starmer: stop arming Israel” in central London while others said “End nuclear hypocrisy” and “Stop bombing Iran.”

Stop the War Coalition’s march against the conflicts in Israel, Lebanon and Palestine started in Russell Square, central London, and ended with speeches outside Downing Street.

The protest was part of the “Stop Bombing Iran Day Of Action” which also saw events in Manchester, west Cornwall, Birmingham and Cardiff.

Speaking on stage at a London demonstration, Ghazal Diani, of Iranians Against Imposed War, said: “The US and the ethno-nationalist, genocidal state of Israel seek a failed, collapsed state in Iran.”

She criticised what she described as efforts to justify intervention in the name of liberating Iranian women.

Addressing the crowd in Whitehall, Stop the War Coalition’s Shabbir Lakha said people in Iran, Palestine and Lebanon are marking Eid “under the hail of US and Israeli bombs next to the rubble of their homes and the graves of their loved ones.”

He added: “Let us be done with Starmer’s lies that Britain is not involved in this war.”

Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos, who also addressed the protesters in London, said: “I am here to protest against the claimed impunity of Israel and the zionists who turn with aggression to country after country and basing the right, this impunity on the sufferings of the World War II Holocaust.

“As a Holocaust survivor I protest against that because we have a completely different aim and meaning in using the memory of the Holocaust which is not to visit it on any other people again, and the Israeli use of it is the exact opposite.”

The protest comes a day after the government announced that it would allow the US to use its British bases in potential strikes on Iran, to force it to open the Strait of Hormuz.

Left politician Andrew Feinstein, who stood as an independent against PM Sir Keir Starmer in the last general election, said: “We don’t just want Starmer out of 10 Downing Street.

“We want the lying, corrupt Trump-poodle out of Camden. We want him at The Hague to face charges of war crimes.”
