Salford's Chris Hankinson celebrates scoring a try during the Super League match at the Salford Community Stadium, June 22, 2025

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Castleford will be without Liam Horne for Thursday night’s Super League clash against Huddersfield after the hooker received a six game suspension for “making unnecessary contact with a player who is, or maybe, injured” during last week’s 20-26 home loss to Wigan.

Bottom club Salford face Warrington on Friday while table-toppers Hull KR are not in action until Sunday, when they take on third-placed Leeds.

MEN’S CRICKET: Steve Smith returns to the Australian squad as they take a one-nil lead into Thursday’s second leg of their three test series against the West Indies in Grenada.

Josh Hazlewood bagged 5-43 as the Windies lost 10 wickets in the final session of the third day, crumbling to 141 all out in their second innings of the first match and suffering a 159 run defeat.

Travis Head scored 59 and 61 to claim the man of the match award.

MEN’S GOLF: 52-year-old former world number one Lee Westwood won Tuesday’s qualifying event at Dundonald in Ayrshire to seal his place for the Open Championship at Portrush, County Antrim in a fortnight’s time.

Westwood was runner-up in 2010 and joint fourth the last time the Open was held in Portrush in 2019.

Former Ryder Cup players Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell both failed to qualify.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Champions Cup holders Bordeaux-Begles have been drawn in the same group as Northampton, who they beat in May’s final, for next season’s competition.

English Premiership champions and European Challenge Cup winners Bath are in the same group as Munster, Gloucester, Edinburgh, Castres and Toulon while URC top dogs Leinster join Leicester, Harlequins, La Rochelle, Bayonne and Cape Town’s Stormers in Group 3.
