MEN’S FOOTBALL: Premier League new-boys Ipswich have been drawn at AFC Wimbledon in the second round of the League Cup which will also see all top-flight clashes between West Ham and Bournemouth in the southern section and Nottingham Forest against Newcastle in the north.

Current holders Liverpool and the other six teams involved in Europe do not join the competition until the third round.

HORSE RACING: Killarney-born Oisin Murphy continues to sit at the top of the British flat racing jockeys table with 103 wins, 35 more than second-placed compatriot Rossa Ryan.

Murphy currently shares the best wins to races ratio of 22 per cent with Ryan Moore.

The highest-placed female jockey is currently Saffie Osborne on 44 wins, 20 ahead of the best apprentice Jack Doughty.

Wales’s Sean Bowen tops the jump jockey table.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: The Irish Cup third round kicks off tonight with lowly Ballyfermot United up against Wexford. 2022’s winners Derry are at Cork City, Drogheda take on minnows Wilton United, Irish League leaders Shelbourne host Galway, Treaty United and Pike Rovers contest a Limerick derby and Waterford play Athlone.

Sligo meet UCD tomorrow before last year’s runners up Bohemians visit Kerry on Sunday.

MEN’S CYCLING: Marc Hirschi’s recent victory at the Clasica de San Sebastian ensured that the UAE Emirates team have increased their lead in the latest set of UCI rankings and now have almost double the amount of points as second-placed Viasma-Lease a Bike.

The top five positions remain unchanged with the British-based Ineos Grenadiers team third followed by Belgium’s Soudal Quick-Step and Lidl Trek in fifth.
