MILLWALL and QPR players are reportedly set to take the knee tonight despite some Lions fans’ protests against the anti-racist action.

Millwall announced yesterday that instead of taking a knee before the fixture, all players would link arms in “a show of solidarity for football’s fight against discrimination.”

The teams also planned to hold up an anti-racist banner, and Millwall said they would have the Kick It Out logo on the front of their shirts.

It came after a section of Millwall fans booed players as they took a knee at the Den on Saturday, when the Lions lost 1-0 to Derby.

The EFL hailed the “proactive” plan announced by the two clubs ahead of last night’s match, which kicked off in south-east London after the Star went to press.

But Sky Sports News reported today that most of Millwall’s players were still planning to take a knee before kick-off alongside the additional actions.

And QPR were set to change their policy on taking a knee in a show of solidarity.

The west London side stopped the action earlier this season after director of football Les Ferdinand’s comments that the symbol had become “diluted.”

Before the Millwall tie, QPR boss Mark Warburton echoed Ferdinand’s calls for “positive action” rather than “gestures,” but revealed that his squad once again planned to take a knee after discussing their response to the scenes at the weekend.

“In light of certain events, we’ll stand solidly behind the cause and our players will take a knee,” Warburton said.

Sky Sports News also quoted a senior Millwall source as saying that some staff and players were left in tears by the booing and widespread condemnation that followed.
