Kamala Harris confirmed as Democratic presidential nominee
Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally, July 30, 2024, in Atlanta

US VICE-PRESIDENT Kamala Harris has won selection as the Democratic presidential nominee for November.

Ms Harris received almost 4,600 votes in a five-day online voting process, which amounted to 99 per cent of participating delegates. The vote was by delegates to the Democratic National Convention, which will meet in Chicago from August 19-22. As the sitting vice-president was the only candidate nominated by the required 300 delegates, she was the only one eligible to receive votes.

Though the Convention itself will formally confirm her position, it means that Ms Harris will run against Donald Trump for the presidency in November.
