Handbooks slamming media silence on Gaza distributed to journalists
People take part in a pro-Palestine march in central London organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, July 6, 2024

HANDBOOKS were distributed to the press lobby in Parliament today, exposing the media’s failure to hold the government to account over Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Titled Journalism During a Genocide: A Guide to Holding the Prime Minister to Account, they were produced by the Independent Alliance of MPs, which includes Jeremy Corbyn, Shockat Adam, Ayoub Khan, Adnan Hussain, and Iqbal Mohamed.

The guide, sent to all major news outlets, provides a list of probing questions that journalists may wish to ask PM Sir Keir Starmer.

They include:  “Will the government release video footage from RAF spy planes that have flown over Gaza?” and “When will the government publish a full list of military shipments from the UK to Israel since October 2023?”

The handbook concludes: “Exposing the truth comes at a cost. In Gaza, journalists have paid with their lives.

“Here in Britain, journalists may damage personal relationships or hamper their professional ambitions. In an ongoing genocide, these risks are surely worth taking.”
