Guardiola slots ‘extraordinary’ Semenyo straight into Man City squad
Man City-bound Antoine Semenyo salutes the fans, Bournemouth, January 7, 2026

ANTOINE SEMENYO is set to make his Manchester City debut in today’s FA Cup third-round tie against Exeter.

The winger was confirmed as a City player yesterday after the club struck a deal with Bournemouth.

With City facing a number of injury problems, manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed the Ghana international will go straight into his squad to face the League One side at the City of Manchester Stadium.

“I don’t know if he will start but he will be selected for sure because we don’t have too many players,” Guardiola said at a press conference.

With attackers Savinho and Oscar Bobb among the casualties and forward Omar Marmoush at the Africa Cup of Nations, Semenyo could have an immediate opportunity to make a mark in the side.

The 26-year-old impressed for the Cherries in the first half of the season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in the Premier League.

Guardiola said: “Everybody knows the qualities. He played extraordinary at Bournemouth and he can play on both sides, right and left, and he can play as a striker as well, with his pace.

“Many clubs wanted him and he decided to join us, so all I can say is thanks to him.”

With Rayan Ait-Nouri also on international duty and the injury list also including John Stones, Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and Mateo Kovacic, Guardiola is unlikely to make wholesale changes this weekend.

The game provides a break from City’s title challenge, which has faltered in the new year with successive draws against Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton.

That sequence could have seen them fall eight points behind leaders Arsenal but the gap is six after the Gunners were also held to a goalless draw by champions Liverpool on Thursday.
