A FORMER detective chief inspector who led the investigation into serial killer Levi Bellfield will join Reform UK as its adviser on police and crime.

Party leader Nigel Farage has said that former Metropolitan Police officer Colin Sutton would be a “huge asset” to the far-right populist party.

He said that he would give all front-line officers tasers, reopen 300 closed police stations, and stop investigations into online arguments should Reform gain power.

Mr Sutton, who joined the Tory Party as a teenager in Enfield, north London, also backed scrapping laws against online abuse — by introducing “a watered-down version of defamation” under civil law.

“Don’t give them legal aid and see how many feelings are hurt then,” he said.

Reform has pledged to spend £7 billion on policies towards halving crime in five years, including recruiting 30,000 extra police officers.
