US leaders send mixed messages on Iran nuke deal

TOP US ministers trumpeted their dissatisfaction with the Iranian nuclear deal today from Paris and Jerusalem.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian that Washington wanted tough new conditions added to the 2015 accord, which allows Iran to develop peaceful nuclear energy in return for guarantees that it will not build nuclear weapons.

Mr Le Drian had warned before the meeting: “The signatories must stand by their word.” The French minister noted that US President Donald Trump “has not broken the agreement, even if … he has made a certain number of demands that at times seem like ultimatums.”
