WALES’ Tafwyl concert kicked off in Cardiff Castle this weekend with a line-up of Welsh-language bands, singers and performances after getting a financial boost from the Welsh government.

The concert kick-started a summer of cultural, sporting and community events taking place across the country, which have been given £1.35 million of public funding.

Other events will include men’s cricket at Glamorgan County Cricket Club, Cardiff, featuring Sri Lankan and Indian teams, and the weekend’s Unearthed Festival in Pembrokeshire, which celebrates consciousness, creativity, and community.

Other events getting public money during the summer are the women’s Tour of Britain bike race in August, the Para Sport Festival in Bangor and South Wales and the Wrexham Open tennis in late October.

Culture and Sport Minister Heledd Fychan said: “Wales has always been a nation that celebrates its culture, creativity and community spirit, and this summer season is a perfect example of that.

“This Welsh government is proud to support organisations to deliver events that truly reflect the very best of who we are.”
