MEN’S FOOTBALL: An own goal from Adam Murasic and Lautaro Martinez’s strike in the 35th minute sealed Inter Milan’s 2-0 victory over Lazio in Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia final at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
It completed a domestic double for the black and blue in head coach Cristian Chivu’s first season in charge.
Inter wrapped up the league title a fortnight ago with two games to play and sit 34 points clear of ninth-placed Lazio.
MEN’S BOXING: County Limerick-born Paddy Donovan fights Ukraine’s Karen Chukhadzhian in the IBF welterweight eliminator at Mannheim’s SAP Arena tonight.
Donovan lost two challenges for the world title against current champion Lewis Crocker in 2025 while Chukhadzhian was defeated by Jaron Ennis in his 2024 bid for the belt.
Twenty-seven-year-old Donovan has been beaten twice in 16 bouts, Chukhadzhian has three losses on his 29-fight record.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Japanese head coach Eddie Jones has been fined and suspended for six weeks for verbally abusing match officials during an under-23 tour game in Australia last month.
The 66-year-old former England boss will miss four games, including Japan’s opening match against Italy in the inaugural Nations Championship.
Japan are currently ranked 12th in the world, two places lower than Italy and one below Wales.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Both English League Two play-off semi-finals kick off on Friday evening with Salford 2-1 up on Grimsby Town and Notts County holding a 1-0 lead over Chesterfield.
Salford, who have never played in League One, finished fourth in the regular season, just one point away from automatic promotion.
Only three points separated the four teams with Grimsby in seventh having the best goal difference.
