Uniting the industrial with the political is key to tackling the far right, CWU fringe hears

UNITING the industrial with the political is key to tackling the far right, heard delegates at a CWU conference fringe today.

Introducing the discussion, CWU regional official for London and the South East region, Winston Richards said: “With the Together Alliance march, we put out half-a-million people. One of the largest ever and a fantastic turnout, but we still have a lot to do.

“We need branches involved.”

Urging delegates to speak with members and “deal with these myths” peddled by Reform, Midlands No 1 CWU branch secretary Ali Moosa told delegates: “We need to make those links because the attacks by Reform on working people, on minorities, on vulnerable people can be devastating.

“We’ve got two-and-a-half years to get this sorted.

“We as unions are really clever in organising our members in the workplace, but we have to extend that into those communities.”

Dorset trade unionist, Women Against the Far Right’s Lynn Hubbard, made clear: “The importance of this is enormous. The misogyny that comes out of the far right is truly chilling.

“Either we can be paralysed by it or we can resist.”
