PRIVATEER company Civica’s mistake has meant more than 1,000 people in Cardiff never received their postal vote for the Senedd election.
Cardiff Council confirmed that more than 1,300 applicants for postal votes had not received their ballot papers.
Civica was responsible for printing the ballot papers, and the council confirmed that some postal votes had not been printed and sent to Royal Mail.
A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: “It has been confirmed that, while the relevant data was received from the council, the print run for last week did not fully take place.
“Initially, this resulted in 1,388 packs not being delivered to electors in the Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf and Caerdydd Penarth constituencies.”
Replacement ballot packs were hand-delivered, with a small number sent via priority mail, but that still means those away from home could be disenfranchised.
One of those was Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys, who told the BBC it was a “fiasco” and said at worst in a tight election it could even tip the balance of power.
