MEN’S ATHLETICS: Sweden’s Armand Duplantis broke the pole vault world record for the 15th time after clearing 6.31 metres in Uppsala’s indoor arena on Thursday evening.
The three-time world champion, double Olympic gold medallist and five-time Golden League winner has single-handedly raised the world record by 15cm in the last six years.
Duplantis was named as the world’s sportsman of the year in 2025.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Holders and three-time winners Chelsea face Manchester United in the English League Cup final at Bristol City’s Ashton Gate on Sunday.
Chelsea’s squad will be missing Norwegian winger Guro Reiten who has signed for New York’s Gotham FC after winning 13 trophies in six years with the Londoners.
Manchester United, currently sitting second in the Super League, one point above Chelsea, have not previously reached a League Cup final.
DARTS: Jonny Clayton thumped Luke Humphries 6-1 in Thursday night’s final in Nottingham to win his second round of the Premier League.
Table-topping Clayton now has an eight-point lead over Luke Littler, who Humphries beat in the semi-finals.

MEN’S BOXING: Liverpool-born Jazza Dickens defends his WBA super-featherweight title against Belfast’s Anthony Cacace in Dublin on Saturday night.
The 34-year-old Dickens has lost five of his 41 bouts while challenger Cacace has only one defeat, in 2017, on his 25 fight record.
Cacace, three years older than Dickens, won the IBF belt in May 2024 but vacated it before beating Josh Warrington and Leigh Wood in his last two bouts.
