SENEDD members have taken the opportunity at the first FMQs since last week’s Westminster Budget to label it “the nightmare before Christmas” today.

Welsh Conservative leader Darren Millar invited First Minister Eluned Morgan to call for Chancellor Rachel Reeves to be sacked for breaking tax pledges.

Ms Morgan proclaimed the Budget as the best in years and said the lifting of the two-child benefit cap will bring 70,000 children out of poverty, the pension rise will benefit 700,000 pensioners and the minimum wage rise would help 160,000 workers in Wales.

Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorweth condemned the chaotic Budget choreography and said there was nothing in it for Wales, as it ignored the Barnett formula and fair funding.

The FM teased Mr ap Iorwerth with the announcement of the small nuclear reactor for his constituency of Anglesey, saying he seemed shy to mention it.

In response, Mr ap Iorwerth said the Budget crisis had left Welsh public services in health and local government “teetering on the edge of failure.”
