Labour Party a write-off, Shaheen tells book launch
Former Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen addresses supporters, after the party allegedly blocked her from standing over past posts on Twitter, outside a supermarket in Highams Park, north-west London, May 31, 2024

THE Labour Party is no longer salvageable as a progressive political vehicle, former party candidate Faiza Shaheen told a London meeting on Wednesday night.

Ms Shaheen, brutally axed as Labour’s candidate for the London seat of Chingford and Woodford Green on the eve of last year’s general election, was speaking at the public launch of the new book The Fraud by Paul Holden.

The book explores the rise of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and the faction around him – his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, above all - through dishonesty, deceit and bullying and its revelations have already prompted resignations among senior Downing Street staff.

Ms Shaheen, now director of Tax Justice UK, said that Sir Keir’s group “have control of every lever in the Labour Party” and that is “why it is so important that the millions that want something different have somewhere else to go.”

She called on the left, including Your Party, the Greens and progressive local independents, to be strategic in elections, saying “don’t fight each other” in key constituencies.

Mr Holden stressed that his book was part of an ongoing political campaign “to hold these bastards to account,” to loud applause from the packed audience.

He and Ms Shaheen both emphasised that Labour now served the interests of capitalism and imperialism.

Ms Shaheen said: “They hate community activism, they are hard-core capitalists and they are committed to a hierarchy of racism – they do not want to hear about Islamophobia.”

And Mr Holden said that Labour’s right was keen to send a message to right-wing voters that they shared their views about migrants and Muslims.
