MEN’S FOOTBALL: Rangers are 3-1 down before they visit Club Brugge in tonight’s second leg of their Champions League play-off fixture. The Glasgow team are currently ranked 12 places higher than the Belgians. 

This evening’s other games see Benfica all-square at 0-0 with Fenerbahce, Qarabag 3-1 up on Ferencvaros and Copenhagen hosting Basel with the score at 1-1. The winners progress to the competition’s league phase. 

HORSE RACING: 10-year-old gelding Wbee died at Cartmel on Monday afternoon after suffering a serious injury during a three-mile handicap hurdle race. 

Two spectators who received injuries when the horse crashed through the track rails were taken to hospital for treatment. 

Wbee had contested 27 races during a six-year career, was first past the post on seven occasions and won nearly £67,000 in prize money.

SPEEDWAY: Birmingham failed to win a heat and suffered a heavy 38-52 defeat at home to Leicester on Monday evening which sealed their bottom spot in the Premiership. 

The meeting also heralded the end of top-flight speedway in the West Midlands with the club unable to use the Perry Barr stadium again. 

Belle Vue eased past Sheffield 54-36 and King’s Lynn won 55-35 at Oxford in Monday’s other matches.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Tom Knowles’s stoppage-time strike earned English National League table-toppers Forest Green a 1-0 win over Eastleigh on Monday and keeps them a point clear of Rochdale, who edged out Sutton by the same score. 

Regan Linney bagged a hat-trick as Carlisle moved third after thumping Braintree 5-0. 

Bottom club Truro scored their first goal of the season but slipped to a late 2-1 loss at Boreham Wood.
