Unity Party expels outgoing president
LIBERIA’S Unity Party said today it had expelled outgoing president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, apparently for refusing to support her vice-president Joseph Boakai’s election bid.
Assistant secretary-general Mohammed Ali accused Ms Sirleaf of sending supporters to campaign for George Weah, who won the December 26 run-off vote.
Mr Weah’s Congress for Democratic Change, a coalition formed to support him, is generally considered to be to the right of the Unity Party.
