Stanway fires England to World Cup semi
Manchester City’s Georgia Stanway

ENGLAND under-20s reached the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time today as they came from behind to defeat tournament debutants the Netherlands in Vannes.

Having topped their group scoring 10 goals, the Lionesses were shocked when Victoria Pelova took advantage of a weak header from Megan Finnigan to expertly side-foot the Netherlands in front from the edge of the area in the 13th minute.

It took England only seven minutes to equalise as Manchester City’s Georgia Stanway maintained her goal-a-game record in the tournament when she latched onto a through pass, turned inside Caitlin Dijkstra and side-footed the ball across Dutch keeper Lize Kop.
