RACING: A horse has been renamed after connections apologised for a “totally innocent mistake” in their original naming of the filly.
Jungle Bells, a daughter of Bungle Inthejungle, made her racecourse debut at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening, finishing sixth of 11 runners under the name Jungle Bunny.
The name – a racist term when referring to a black person – was picked up on social media, leading the British Horseracing Authority to say that it is “deeply offensive and should not have been permitted.”
