LIBYA: Eleven Sudanese migrants and a Libyan driver were killed today in a car crash in the desert in Libya, authorities said, the latest tragedy involving Sudanese fleeing a civil war in their home country.
The crash between the migrants’ vehicle and a truck reportedly happened early this morning in the desert, 56 miles north of the Libyan town of Kufra.
INDONESIA: A natural stones quarry in Indonesia’s West Java province collapsed today, killing at least two people and leaving several workers missing, officials said.
At least 10 people were trapped in the rubble when the mine in Cirebon district collapsed, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi estimated in a video statement, and rescuers have retrieved at least two bodies.
At least a dozen people were also injured by the collapse.
SUDAN: A suspected drone attack by Sudanese paramilitaries today hit a hospital in southern Sudan, killing at least six people and knocking the facility out of service, officials and rights advocates said.
The Emergency Lawyers, a rights group, blamed the Rapid Support Forces for the attack on the Obeid International Hospital, al-Dhaman, in Obeid, the capital city of North Kordofan province. At least 15 others were wounded in the attack, it said.
PAKISTAN: The Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced today that diplomatic representation with neighbouring Afghanistan was being upgraded from charge d’affaires to the level of ambassador, a move aimed at improving bilateral relations.
The announcement by the Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, comes a week after he met his Afghan counterpart, Amir Khan Muttaqi, alongside China’s top diplomat during a trilateral meeting in Beijing.
