INDIA: Three suspected militants were killed in a gunfight with Indian forces in Kashmir’s Shopian district today, according to Indian authorities, the first such clash since last month’s massacre of 26 tourists.

SYRIA: President Ahmad al-Sharaa will not attend an Arab League summit in Iraq this week and the country’s delegation will be headed by the foreign minister, the president’s office said today.
The statement did not give a reason why he will not attend but an invitation by the Iraqi government last month triggered sharp political divisions in Iraq. The summit is scheduled to be held in Baghdad on Saturday.
MEXICO: Gunmen killed mayoral candidate Yesenia Lara Gutierrez from Mexico’s governing party in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz and four others who accompanied her — the second such local candidate killing in the state ahead of the June 1 election — authorities confirmed.
The attack, in which her daughter also died, occurred on Sunday when she was leading a caravan of supporters through the petroleum industry port town of Texistepec. Three more people were wounded.
