Welsh First Minister gives final assessment of her government's results
Labour First Minister of Wales Baroness Eluned Morgan addresses an audience of members and candidates at Newport Market, during the Welsh Labour Senedd campaign launch ahead of the Senedd elections in May. Picture date: Monday March 2, 2026

SENEDD members heard First Minister Eluned Morgan give her final assessment today of how her government has performed for the Welsh public.

Ms Morgan paid tribute to former FM Mark Drakeford for the work he achieved over his time in the Senedd in driving devolution forward and the changes to the institution.

The FM said there were 284 commitments in the Welsh government’s programme, and the majority had been fulfilled.

She reminded MSs that this had been achieved in the face of the Covid pandemic, Brexit and 10 years of austerity.

The FM noted that the two Reform UK MSs were not in the chamber and said: “They’re not here today and they won’t deliver for the people of Wales.”

But both Plaid Cymru’s Rhun ap Iorwerth and Welsh Conservative Darren Millar said she had glossed over the role of Vaughan Gething as FM and the damage that did to political integrity in Wales.

Mr ap Iorwerth said: “The spin she has put on her government’s achievements would make Alastair Campbell blush.”
