York Knights' Liam Harris (obscured) celebrates winning the game with a drop kick in a golden point extra time during the 1895 Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, London, June 7, 2025

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: York ran in 10 tries to thump Batley 52-12 and rack up a 19th win in a row that sealed the Championship title by two points from Toulouse, who had romped to a 68-6 win at bottom club Hunslet.

Despite there being no automatic promotion to the Super League, the play-offs will start on Friday evening, with third-placed Bradford taking on Featherstone and Halifax at Oldham for a place in the semi-finals.

SPEEDWAY: Belle Vue’s Australian captain Brady Kurtz won the Danish Grand Prix in Vojens to become the first rider to claim five successive rounds at the world championships, but still failed to overhaul defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik.

The Polish racer finished second on the night to secure a record-equalling sixth title by just one point. Kurtz’s Belle Vue team-mate Briton Dan Bewley picked up the bronze medal.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Rangers top the Scottish Premiership by a point after they came from behind to win 4-1 at Partick, second-placed Celtic earned a 4-2 victory in Aberdeen and Glasgow City maintained the league’s only 100 per cent record by edging out bottom club Hamilton 1-0. Kathleen

McGovern bagged a hat-trick as title-holders Hibernian brushed aside Montrose 5-0 and Hearts beat Motherwell 3-0.

MEN’S GOLF: Sweden’s Alex Noren followed up his win at last month’s British Masters with a victory at Wentworth’s PGA Championship on Sunday evening after needing an extra hole play-off to overcome France’s Adrien Saddier.

Only Rory McIlroy, who finished 20th, has won more titles than Noren on the European Tour since 2009. Wolverhampton’s Aaron Rai finished third equal with American Patrick Reed, three shots off the lead.
