Leading 2-0 at half-time Lens had on-loan Sunderland defender Arthur Masuaku sent off before conceding twice. The other last four clash will see Strasbourg up against Nice, who also needed penalties to overcome Lorient. Lens are the only team left in the competition who have not previously won the trophy.
SPEEDWAY: Despite having no recent history of speedway, Northampton has been announced as the new team in this year’s Premiership with its first fixtures due to take place at the end of April. Brought in to replace Birmingham and Oxford, who both resigned from the league last season, Northampton will race at the International Shaleway stadium near Brafield-on-the-Green, which is currently used for stock car racing.
DARTS: World Champion Luke Littler beat Jonny Clayton 6-4 in Cardiff on Wednesday night to win his first round of this year’s Premier League. Table-topping Clayton now has a five-point lead over Littler, Gerwyn Price and Gian van Veen. Josh Rock remains bottom of the league without a win after a 6-4 first round loss to Littler. Next week’s sixth leg of the 17-round tournament takes place in Nottingham.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: The English FA Cup fifth round continues with 14-time winners Arsenal at League One’s Mansfield for tomorrow’s early kick off before Wrexham host Chelsea and Newcastle take on last year’s runners-up Manchester City. Norwich travel to Leeds on Sunday after Port Vale, the lowest ranked team left in the competition, face Sunderland and Fulham play Southampton. West Ham are up against Brentford in the round’s final tie on Monday.
