BASEBALL: Cuba missed out on the chance of a World Baseball Classic quarter-final spot after losing out 7-2 to Canada on Wednesday. The USA squeezed into the last eight despite suffering a surprise 8-6 defeat to Italy and will next meet the unbeaten Canadians. Italy will face co-hosts Puerto Rico. The other quarter-final ties see Dominican Republic up against South Korea and Venezuela taking on trophy holders Japan.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: There’s a full set of League of Ireland fixtures tomorrow evening as table-topping Bohemians, the only team with an unbeaten record, take on Galway and second-placed St Patrick’s host Drogheda in west Dublin. Dundalk play Waterford with both teams still looking for a first win of the season, bottom of the table Sligo meet defending champions Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne are at Derry City.
MEN’S CRICKET: Bangladesh are one up when they face Pakistan for the second leg of their three match one-day series in Mirpur tomorrow. Pace bowler Nahid Rana took 5-24 as the Pakistanis were skittled out for just 114 in Wednesday’s opener before Tanzid Hasan Tamim smashed an unbeaten 67 to secure an eight wicket win for the Bangladeshis. Pakistan are ranked as the world’s fourth best 50 over team, six places above Bangladesh.
MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: The Challenge Cup fourth round kicks off tonight with the Super League’s top dogs Wigan putting their hundred per cent start on the line against Bradford while 14-time winners Leeds make the short trip to Wakefield. Cup holders Hull KR are at injury-hit Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon when York play Keighley, Goole meet Warrington, Leigh face Hull FC, Castleford take on St Helens and the Catalans are up against Oldham.
