Mexico forward Raúl Jiménez (centre) celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal during the second half of a CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal soccer match against Honduras, July 2, 2025, in Santa Clara, Calif.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Fulham’s Raul Jimenez scored the only goal of the game as holders Mexico edged out Honduras 1-0 in Thursday morning’s Concacaf Gold Cup semi-final. The Mexicans will face the USA in Sunday’s final after Diego Luna netted twice as the Americans held on to beat Guatemala 2-1 in their last four clash. Mexico are ranked as the world’s 17th best team, one place below the United States.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: England continue the defence of the World Under 20s Championship title with a Group A game against South Africa in Rovigo, north-east Italy, tomorrow evening. England thumped Scotland 56-19 in their opening fixture while South Africa crushed Australia 73-14. Wales, who lost 34-27 to Argentina in their first match play last year’s runners-up France in Group B while Ireland are up against hosts Italy in Group C.

MEN’S CRICKET: Defending champions Surrey leap-frogged Nottingham to move top of County Championship Division One by a point despite both teams enduring staid draws in the latest round of matches. Surrey drew with Durham while Notts were held by Somerset. Yorkshire were the only team to bag a win after stuffing Essex by 10 wickets. Bottom club Worcester enjoyed the better of their draw at Hampshire and Sussex drew with Warwicks.

MEN’S BOXING: Liverpool’s James “Jazza” Dickens won the vacant WBA and IBF interim super-featherweight titles after knocking out Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Albert Batyrgaziev in the fourth round of Wednesday evening’s bout in Istanbul. Dickens improved his professional record to 34 wins in 39 fights while inflicting a first defeat for Batyrgaziev. 34-year-old Dickens lost to Cuba’s Guillermo Rigondeaux Ortis in a world title bid in 2016.
