Beau Greaves celebrates winning the second set during her match against Daryl Gurney on day nine of the World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace, London, December 19, 2025

DARTS: Beau Greaves became the first woman to throw a nine-dart finish in a PDC ProTour match when she beat Mensur Suljovic at Wednesday’s Players Championship in Leicester.

Greaves is the dominant force in the women’s game but is only ranked at 96th in the PDC order of merit, 41 places below Suljovic.

She lost to David Sharp in the last 16 before Gerwyn Price thrashed Andrew Gilding 8-1 to win the final.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Raith Rovers needed penalties to edge past Airdrieonians after extra time failed to split the teams during their Scottish Challenge Cup semi final on Wednesday night. The teams were level at 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Raith will meet Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the final after Jordan Alonge scored both goals for the League One table-toppers in their 2-1 win at Ayr.

Both finalists have previously won the cup three times.

HORSE RACING: 2023’s nine-length winner of the Champion Hurdle and three-time Christmas Hurdle champion Constitution Hill will not race over fences again.

Trainer Nicky Henderson and owner Michael Buckley have decided that the eight-year-old gelding will focus on flat racing following his encouraging debut success at Southwell’s all-weather track last week.

Constitution Hill had fallen in three of his last four National Hunt races.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: There are eight Super League-based players in the British squad when they continue their World Cup qualifying campaign against Italy in Newcastle tomorrow evening.

Both teams come into the game with a win and loss from their opening games and the return leg takes place in Livorno on Monday.

Italy are ranked as the 15th best team in the world, 27 places above Britain.
