Lamine Yamal missed a first half penalty before Pau Cubarsi’s header put Barca ahead in the 59th minute. Goals from Thomas Lemar and Fran Beltran sealed the points for Girona. Real Madrid lead La Liga by two points with Villareal 13 points further back in third.
MEN’S CRICKET: Pakistan must beat Namibia in Colombo tomorrow morning to make the Super Eights at the Twenty20 World Cup. The Namibians have already been eliminated. India and South Africa have already qualified before their games against the Netherlands and United Arab Emirates. The Dutch need to beat India and Pakistan to lose to have any chance of progressing while the UAE must win and hope New Zealand lose against Canada.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Holders Arsenal lead Belgium’s OH Leuven 4-0 before tonight’s second leg of their Champions League knock-out phase tie in Boreham Wood. The Gunners won 3-0 at Leuven in the league stage. The winner will face Chelsea in the quarter finals. Tomorrow evening’s other game sees Real Madrid 3-2 up on Paris FC. Last year’s runners-up and three-time champions Barcelona await the winners in the last eight.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Double Olympic gold medallist and 12-time NBA All-Star Chris Paul has announced his retirement at the age of 40. One of the most successful point guards ever, Paul made almost 1,400 appearances in a 21-year career and was part of the Phoenix Suns team that finished as NBA runners up in 2021. He has the second highest amounts of assists and steals in NBA history behind Utah Jazz legend John Stockdale.
