TANKER drivers delivering fuel to the Sandringham Estate will go on strike over the festive period, Unite said today.

Some 400 Certas Energy workers, who also deliver fuel to Royal Mail, Gulf forecourts, military and schools are to go on strike after rejecting a 2 per cent pay offer.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Certas drivers don’t expect to be treated like royalty, but they do expect a fair pay rise from their employer.”

The drivers are to walk out on December 22, January 5 to 11 and 19 to 25.

Unite national officer Tony Devlin said: “The strikes will inevitably cause severe disruption for Certas’ clients but this is entirely the fault of the company for offering a pay cut dressed up as a rise.

“There is still time to avoid industrial action, but that will require a pay offer that is acceptable to our members.”

A Certas Energy Spokesperson said: “Contrary to some inaccurate press reports, Certas Energy confirms that drivers have been offered a generous, above inflation, pay and conditions offer. The offer was made in recognition of the important role our fuel delivery drivers play in delivering to our customers across the country. Certas Energy remain engaged with Unite to achieve a swift resolution.

“Customers should be reassured that in the event of industrial strike action, Certas Energy has steps in place to mitigate impact and to minimise any potential disruption to customers.”
