Russia accuses Ukraine of using US weapons to break Easter ceasefire

THE Russian Foreign Ministry slammed Ukraine today for using weapons from the United States to break an Easter ceasefire.

Moscow said Himars precision missiles had been used in an attack on a civilian energy and fuel complex at Bankova.

The ministry said the Ukrainians had also fired 444 rounds at army positions using mortars and mortars, as well as carrying out 900 attacks.

On Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter truce, which was extended until midnight on April 21, emphasising that Kiev must also abide by it.

But the Ukrainian government claimed on Sunday that the ceasefire was a smokescreen and accused the Russians of carrying out attacks. Posting on X, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “As of Easter morning, we can say that the Russian army is trying to create a general impression of a ceasefire.”

By that time, Ukrainian forces had recorded 59 instances of Russian shelling and five assaults by units along the front line, as well as dozens of drone strikes, he added.

The US State Department said that it was continuing its efforts to achieve “a full and comprehensive ceasefire.”

It noted encouraging discussions in Paris in the past week, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio conveyed in a call to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
