Reform UK targets winning the Senedd 2026 election

EXTREME right-wing politicians are aiming to form the next government in Wales after the 2026 Senedd election.

Reform UK told BBC Wales today that the party had its sights on taking 20 to 40 seats in an enlarged Senedd of 96 seats.

The 2026 election will be held under proportional representation, with the electorate voting for a party list, not individual Senedd members.

At last year’s general election, Reform UK came second in 13 Welsh parliamentary constituencies.

Recent opinion polls show the party ahead of the Welsh Conservatives and within the margin of error of leading.

Reform UK’s Welsh spokesman Oliver Lewis told BBC Politics Wales: “We’ve now established branches in each of the Senedd constituencies.”

The party claims 7,800 members in Wales, more than the 5,000 reported to be members of the Welsh Conservatives.
