Plaid candidate steps down for old Twitter comments offensive to children

A PLAID Cymru candidate for the upcoming Welsh Parliament election has stood down after an old social media post resurfaced where he used offensive language to describe children.

Neil Roberts apologised for using “online slang” and “inappropriate” terms made on Twitter, now known as X, in 2021.

Explaining that he did not want to distract from Plaid’s campaign, he stood down from the election on Thursday where he was running to represent two seats covering Cardiff.

Screenshots of the comments were shared by Wales Reform UK leader Dan Thomas.

Images show Mr Roberts replying to another Twitter user attacking people who have children despite not being “capable of raising them.”

The former candidate used an offensive term for children in his message, and said they were “for life not just for Christmas.”

It came only a day after another Plaid candidate, Oli Bradley-Hughes, apologised for sexist language and referring to illegal drug-taking on social media when he was a teenager.
