Oborne says Starmer will face law over Gaza genocide
Prime Minister Keir Starmer speaks to the media in the briefing room of 9 Downing Street in central London, January 19, 2026

JOURNALIST Peter Oborne told a Cardiff audience that British ministers will face retribution in law for their collusion in the genocide in Gaza.

The respected author was speaking about his book, COMPLICIT — Britain’s Role in the Destruction of Gaza, at a Palestine Solidarity Campaign Cardiff meeting in the city’s Temple of Peace.

Mr Oborne accused the media of deliberately failing to include voices against the Gaza genocide and said his own book “had not been reviewed in one mainstream media organisation,” with the exception of the Morning Star which he publicly thanked.

He explained that he wrote the book after a visit to the West Bank: “I was looking at the stars, and the missiles would be going back and forth.

“After October 7, Israel killed 10,000 people by the end of October, almost all of them civilians.”

He said that PM Sir Keir Starmer is an expert in international law and genocide, but when he was asked on radio whether Israel had the right to collectively punish people in Gaza on LBC radio he said: “Yes, Israel does have that right.”

Mr Oborne said the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) continuing investigation into genocide is due to report next year and added: “If it does come to a verdict that genocide has been committed, then it will change many things.

“Because leading British, American, European politicians and others will suddenly find themselves open to prosecution.”

The Welsh Senedd was praised for passing a motion calling for a ceasefire in November 2023 with the author saying that it was so important because the politicians in Westminster were supporting Israel without question.

And the “weekly protest marches across Britain were in the best traditions of the Chartists, Suffragette and Jarrow marchers,” he added.

He lambasted the mainstream media for failing to challenge the bad decisions made by ministers, and the lies told by politicians about the protests.

Mr Oborne also spoke about how US President Donald Trump is tearing up the rules-based international world order and linked it to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

“This climate was created as a result of the need felt by the US, supported by Britain, to defend Israeli slaughter of innocent civilians in Gaza,” he said.
