AT LEAST 26 more Palestinians were killed by Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip today.

Gaza hospital sources said that the 26 had been killed in Israeli attacks across the enclave, including in Beit Lahiya, Gaza City, Bureij refugee camp and Rafah, news broadcaster Al Jazeera reported.

One of the latest Israeli strikes targeted a clinic in Gaza City where displaced Palestinians were sheltering. At least six people were killed and several wounded by the attack.

Witness Ahmed Qaddoum said: “We went to western Gaza City as instructed by the Israeli army and took shelter in Remal Clinic. It was filled with displaced people from Shujayea and other areas of Gaza City.

“While we were asleep, thinking it was safe, missiles suddenly struck. We rushed out and saw bodies, torn limbs, women and children. The place was completely devastated.”

Meanwhile, new details of the Gaza ceasefire proposal emerged on Sunday as Israel sent a negotiating team to Qatar ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘s White House visit for talks towards an agreement. 

“There are 20 hostages that are alive, 30 dead. I am determined, we are determined, to bring them all back. And we will also be determined to ensure that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel,” Mr Netanyahu said before leaving for Washington.

The ceasefire proposal, submitted by mediators to Hamas, reportedly outlines plans for a 60-day ceasefire, during which Hamas would hand over 10 living and 18 dead hostages, Israeli forces would withdraw to a buffer zone along Gaza’s borders with Israel and Egypt and significant amounts of aid would be brought in. 

The document says the aid would be distributed by United Nations agencies and the Palestinian Red Crescent. 

It does not specify what would happen to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the US organisation that has distributed food aid since May, and which is implicated in Israel’s killing of hundreds waiting for aid around its distribution centres. Israel wants it to replace the UN-co-ordinated system.

As in previous ceasefire agreements, Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli facilities would be released in exchange for the hostages, but the number has not yet been agreed.

The proposal stops short of guaranteeing a permanent end to the war, as demanded by Hamas, but it says negotiations on a permanent ceasefire would take place during the 60 days. 

During that time, “President Trump guarantees Israel’s adherence” to halting military operations, the document says, adding that he “will personally announce the ceasefire agreement.”
