SCOTTISH Labour have accused the SNP of “neglecting” women’s health as it launched its women’s manifesto today.
The party’s health spokeswoman Jackie Baillie cited gynaecological treatment open waits standing at more than 62,000, with 5,431 outstanding for more than a year.
She said: “The SNP talk the talk, but [its] plans aren’t worth the paper they are written on as long as promises aren’t being delivered.
“It’s time to end the SNP’s neglect and give women’s health the attention it deserves.”
On a campaign visit to Ayrshire, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar unveiled pledges to cut long waits, provide menopause clinics in every health board, protect women’s reproductive rights, boost health visitor numbers, and implement the Equality Act “straight away.”
Jenni Minto, minister for women’s health and SNP candidate for Argyll and Bute, hit back and accused Labour of planning £1 billion in health spending cuts.
She said: “Women’s health is a priority for the SNP and that’s reflected in the fact we were the first country on these islands to introduce a Women’s Health Plan with new action on gynaecology where we’ve seen longest waits for new outpatients fall by over 18 per cent.”
