Hamas confirms death of senior commander in latest strike
Palestinians looks at a destroyed car following an Israeli strike in Gaza City, December 13, 2025

HAMAS confirmed today the killing of senior commander Raed Saad in an Israeli attack in Gaza, in the highest-profile assassination since the October ceasefire deal.

Chief Khalil al-Hayya said the killing showed Israel’s continued violations of the agreement and urged mediators, “especially the US administration and US President Donald Trump as the main guarantor of the agreement,” to force Israel to comply with the ceasefire.

At least five people were killed and 25 wounded when a vehicle was struck at the Nabulsi junction in Gaza City.

An Israeli defence official said Mr Saad had been targeted, describing him as the head of Hamas’s weapons manufacturing force.

Since the ceasefire began in October, Israel has carried out nearly 800 attacks on Gaza, killing at least 386 people, according to Gaza authorities, who say this constitutes a clear breach of the agreement.

Israel has also continued to block most aid trucks from entering the enclave.

On Friday, the UN general assembly overwhelmingly backed a resolution demanding unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza, an end to attacks on UN facilities and compliance with international law as an occupying power.

The World Health Organisation estimates that between 5,000 and 6,000 people in Gaza have become amputees because of the attacks, around a quarter of them children.

Many face long waits for prosthetics or medical evacuation abroad, while local facilities such as the Artificial Limbs and Polio Centre in Gaza City remain overwhelmed and undersupplied.

Thirty-four-year-old Haneen al-Mabhouh, who lost her leg and four daughters in an Israeli strike last year, remains in a wheelchair at her home in Nuseirat as she waits for permission to travel for treatment.

“I dream of walking again, of holding a new baby, of rebuilding my family,” she said.
