Glasgow stands in solidarity with Brum bin workers
People rally in support of the striking bin workers

WORKERS from across Scotland have rallied in solidarity with the Birmingham bin strikers in Glasgow.

Opening the rally on Wednesday evening, striking refuse worker, Danny Taylor told comrades: “We are unbeaten. The striking bin men will eventually come out on top.

“Birmingham City Council is messing around in negotiations — so what we want is the real deal-makers at the table. Stop wasting our time and let’s get a deal done and the rubbish off the streets of Birmingham.”

Contributions from Carlo Morelli, a UCU activist on strike at Dundee University, Unite for a Workers’ Economy’s Claire Peden and messages of solidarity from Glasgow, Paisley and Clydebank Trades Councils followed.

RMT Scotland organiser Gordon Martin said: “They talk about the rats in the streets of Birmingham, but look at the Houses of Parliament.

“They’re the rats we need to kick out — whether it’s red rats, blue rats or any other colour.

“It’s time we got off our knees, got on our feet, got properly organised and fought back through the trade union movement.

“Only we can change it.”
