JAMES BARNES-MILLER declared himself “pretty stoked” after a seventh-place finish in the men’s banked slalom SB-UL snowboarding at the Paralympics in Milan-Cortina today.
The 36-year-old came out in front of fellow Great Britain boarders Matt Hamilton and Davy Zyw, who finished 11th and 19th respectively.
“It has been wicked,” Barnes-Miller reflected.
“I am pretty stoked. First run I had a couple of mistakes, I needed to push a bit harder. That’s what we tried to do on the second run, I made a couple of mistakes but I am pretty happy with it.”
Ollie Hill also clocked in seventh in the men’s banked slalom SB-LL2 and immediately set his sights on an improved performance at the next Games.
“I gave it everything I could. I am here, healthy and put in a couple of good runs,” he said.
“It wasn’t terrible, just not enough for today. That’s life. We fight again in another four years.”
Nina Sparks was 10th in the women’s banked slalom SB-LL2 and was happy with her efforts on Paralympic debut.
“To have just put down a run that I’m really, really proud of and have just found out it’s apparently half a second quicker than the previous run, I will take that,” she said.
The Games will continue this weekend with more medal events across the snow and ice as the competition enters its final stretch.
Athletes will have one last opportunity to add to their tallies before attention turns to Sunday night’s closing ceremony.
